SANAA, Jan. 10 (Saba) - The Minister of Defense of the Central African Republic, Marie-Noëlle Koyara, announced that the deployment of a Russian military base in her country is possible, according to the possibility of a framework agreement signed between the two countries, although the discussion is not currently taking place.
"We have not yet talked about developing a specific base, but this possibility is not excluded in the Framework Agreement, which was concluded between our two countries," the minister told Sputnik.
"If presidents, as supreme commanders of the armed forces and leaders of the nation, decide to deploy a base, this will happen in our country and we, as ministers, will be implemented," she said.
The internal situation deteriorated in the Central African Republic in early December 2013, when clashes broke out in Bangui between the militants of the Islamic Movement and the opposition Christian groups.
According to the United Nations, since the outbreak of the conflict in Central Africa, up to one million people have been forced to leave their homes, and the conflict has killed more than 6,000 people.
In August, the two movements signed a declaration of understanding after a Russian-sponsored peace meeting in Khartoum. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Russia would continue its unwavering support for the process of national reconciliation in the Central African Republic.
