SANAA, Nov.25 (Saba) - Amado Koufa, one of the country's top militants, was killed in a raid by French troops on Thursday evening, the Malian army said.
"I confirm the death of Amadou Koufa during the operation," army spokesman told Reuters news agency without giving further details.
The French army said on Friday that Koufa may have been killed in the operation in the central district of Mopti, in which the troops were surrounded by about 30 militants.
Koufa was a senior aide to Iyad Ag Ghali, a leader of a militant group in Mali who has carried out several attacks on soldiers and civilians in Mali and neighboring Burkina Faso.
