Berlin – Saba:
Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the German party "Alliance and Justice", described Chancellor Friedrich Merz's announcement to suspend military export licenses to Israel as "a farce", arguing that the killing will continue regardless.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Wagenknecht wrote:
"Merz's announcement is not a radical change in policy—it’s a farce. The so-called arms export suspension only applies to new licenses and only to weapons that could be used in Gaza. Who will even monitor this?"
She argued that the "partial export freeze" would change nothing for people on the ground, who are still being "bombed, displaced, and starved by Israel."
"The killing continues, but Germany doesn’t want to get its hands publicly dirty," she added.
The German politician stressed that anyone seeking real change must:
- Completely halt all arms exports to Israel.
- Recognize a Palestinian state.
- Push for an actual ceasefire.
