Sana’a - Saba:

The Yemeni Pharmacists Syndicate organized a workshop in Sana’a today to discuss pharmacy education outcomes and career opportunities in the pharmaceutical field, coinciding with the National Pharmacists Day.

The event was attended by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Hammadi, Secretary General of the Medical Council. In his speech, Dr. Osama Al-Maqhafi, Secretary of the Yemeni Pharmacists Syndicate, emphasized the importance of the workshop in highlighting the pharmacists’ role in public health by ensuring the provision of medications, offering pharmaceutical consultations, and recognizing their vital role in the healthcare system.

He underscored pharmacists’ contributions in patient care and the correct dispensing of medications, noting that the event marks the anniversary of the graduation of the first class of pharmacists from Sana’a University.

Dr. Al-Maqhafi also announced the launch of the Yemeni Pharmacists’ Social Solidarity Fund—an initiative designed as a cooperative support mechanism for all syndicate members enrolled in the fund.

The workshop brought together academics, pharmacists, and representatives from pharmaceutical companies and featured three key presentations:

  • Dr. Yahya Al-Dukhain, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for Student Affairs, presented on the outcomes of pharmacy education.
  • Dr. Ali Al-Yahwi, Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Pharmacy at September 21 University, discussed job opportunities available to pharmacists.
  • Dr. Mahmoud Al-Buraihi, Professor of Pharmacy at Sana’a University, addressed the pharmacist’s role in enhancing healthcare quality.

Key recommendations from the workshop included:

  • Implementing quality standards in pharmacy faculties to ensure balance between enrollment capacity and labor market needs.
  • Integrating structured pharmaceutical training in all pharmacy and clinical pharmacy programs.
  • Creating employment pathways for pharmacy graduates in both public and private sectors based on specialization and societal needs.
  • Aligning educational outcomes with national strategies aimed at establishing pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and ensuring national medicine security.
  • Strengthening partnerships between academic institutions, hospitals, pharmacies, and drug manufacturers.
  • Promoting professional ethics and the integration of pharmacists into healthcare teams to improve patient outcomes and community health.

The workshop concluded with a ceremony honoring the top students from Sana’a University’s Faculty of Pharmacy, covering cohorts from the second to the tenth graduating classes.
