Gaza – Saba:

Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Palestine Majed Twal said on Thursday that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has reached a catastrophic stage, stressing that the international community has failed the children of Gaza in light of the ongoing aggression and blockade.

Twal explained in a press statement that the organization is unable to meet the growing needs of the population of Gaza, noting that 88% of the Strip's territory has become evacuation zones or closed military zones, preventing UNICEF teams from accessing its warehouses or providing adequate humanitarian support.

He added that a large number of children in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition due to acute malnutrition, warning of serious health repercussions in the short and long term.

Twal called for the opening of the crossings and the unimpeded entry of all humanitarian aid, stressing that the continued military operations by the Israeli entity army make it impossible to provide the minimum level of assistance necessary to save the lives of civilians, especially children.

Twal concluded his statement by saying, "The international community has failed the children of Gaza and has not acted commensurately with the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe they have been experiencing for months."

It is worth noting that cases of malnutrition and famine are arriving at hospitals in Gaza at any moment. 900,000 children in Gaza are suffering from hunger, 70,000 of whom have reached the stage of malnutrition.

With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has continued to commit crimes of genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

This has resulted in the deaths of 60,249 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 147,089 others, as of Thursday.

This is a preliminary toll, with thousands of victims still under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.
