Kigali - Saba:
Members of the Rwandan Parliament unanimously endorsed the peace agreement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which was signed under the auspices of the United States on June 27 in Washington.
The vote took place Wednesday evening in Parliament in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, after hearing from Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe, who reiterated that Rwanda's defensive measures will not be lifted until the dismantling of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), detailing the expected steps to achieve this.
Nduhungirehe added that Rwanda "will not just wait for people to commit the same acts as in 1994," and also indicated that his country expects mediators to intensify their efforts to push Kinshasa to implement the agreement reached under US auspices.
The peace agreement signed in Washington on June 27 between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo reached a new stage in Kigali after the Rwandan National Assembly approved the text, which had previously been approved by the Council of Ministers, on Wednesday, July 30. Following the National Assembly's approval of the text, the Rwandan Senate now has to consider it.
