Dhamar – Saba:

Governor of Dhamar Mohammed al-Bukhaiti met on Thursday with Field Office Director of UNICEF – Sana’a Branch Bashmina Ali to discuss the organization’s interventions in the water and sanitation sector, as well as ways to expand the implementation of projects across several key sectors.

During the meeting, Governor al-Bukhaiti highlighted the efforts being made to provide essential services amid the current challenging circumstances, emphasizing the importance of expanding water-related and other vital development projects.

He reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to facilitating the success of initiatives implemented by international organizations and donors in the governorate, praising UNICEF’s role in supporting the water sector and other fields. He also urged the Water Corporation to assess needs and prioritize projects that UNICEF could potentially support in the near future.

For his part, Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation, Eng. Mohammed Al-Kuhlani, expressed the institution’s keenness to effectively utilize UNICEF's support in enhancing water services for the community.

He pointed to the increasing demand for water and sanitation projects and outlined the corporation’s plans to meet the needs of growing urban areas, particularly in Dhamar city. Key among these are expansion projects for the sewage treatment plant and the central solar-powered water production facility.

The UNICEF's Field Office Director stated that the purpose of her visit was to evaluate the progress of projects implemented by the Water Corporation from 2024 to mid-2025, and to identify the institution’s future needs in water and sanitation.

She praised the local authority’s cooperation in facilitating UNICEF’s operations and commended the Water Corporation’s efforts in executing its projects.

During the visit, Bashmina Ali was honored with a commemorative shield by the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in recognition of her role.

The UNICEF delegation also learned from Governor Al-Bukhaiti about the experience of establishing the model Al-Thalaya School for Technology and Applied Sciences, including its goals, admission mechanisms, modern teaching methods, and its advanced laboratories and equipment, along with the ongoing Central E-Library Project.

Bashmina expressed admiration for this pioneering educational initiative and Dhamar’s vision in launching such specialized projects. She emphasized their importance in localizing technology, building future generations, and producing scientifically and practically qualified graduates capable of meeting the evolving demands of the labor market.

She also noted the potential for adopting similar projects targeting people with disabilities, girls, and children who have dropped out of school, expressing her readiness to seek funding for such initiatives.
