Moscow - Saba:
Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom announced the launch of a pilot uranium processing unit in Tanzania.
Mantra Tanzania Limited (a subsidiary of Uranium One Group, a Rosatom subsidiary) said in a statement that it had commissioned the pilot uranium processing unit at the Mkuju River project in southern Tanzania, according to Russia Today.
The Mkuju River project aims to test technologies for industrial-scale uranium processing.
Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan participated in the official inauguration ceremony. The pilot unit is located at the Nyota deposit, and uranium processing methods will be tested and improved solutions developed where necessary.
The collected data will form the basis for the design of the main processing complex, with a production capacity of up to 3,000 tons of uranium per year.
Construction of the complex is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with operational capacity expected in 2029.
