Brussels – SABA:
The Belgian Public Prosecutor has decided to refer the files of two Israeli soldiers—who were detained and investigated in Belgium—to the International Criminal Court (ICC), based on complaints accusing them of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Prosecutor’s Office said the “Hind Rajab Foundation,” headquartered in Brussels, had filed two complaints against the Israeli soldiers who arrived in the Belgian city of Boom to attend the “Tomorrowland” music festival on July 18 and 19.
The Prosecutor confirmed that the decision was made in line with Belgium’s international obligations to ensure the proper course of justice.
A few days earlier, Belgian authorities arrested and interrogated the two Israeli soldiers over allegations of war crimes in Gaza. The action was taken following a legal complaint submitted by the Hind Rajab Foundation in collaboration with the Global Network for Legal Action.
In an official statement, the Hind Rajab Foundation said the arrests were carried out visibly and firmly during the Tomorrowland festival in Boom, where the soldiers were identified and temporarily detained. They were later formally interrogated by police and subsequently released. The foundation described the move as a shift in the international approach to dealing with crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
These developments come as part of a broader international legal campaign led by the foundation, which has filed dozens of complaints across European and Latin American countries against Israeli soldiers accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza—especially in light of video evidence and witness testimonies published by various media outlets.
