Tunisian swimmer Ahmed al-Jawadi, 20, claimed the gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle on Wednesday at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
Al-Jawadi clocked a time of 7:36.88 minutes, securing not only Tunisia’s first gold medal of the tournament but also his first-ever world title, with the third-fastest time ever recorded in this event.
Germany’s Sven Schwarz took silver with a time of 7:39.96, while compatriot Lukas Märtens earned bronze at 7:40.19, in a closely contested race that came down to the final meters.
The victory marks a major milestone in Al-Jawadi’s rising career, following his fourth-place finish at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and underscores his growing presence on the world stage.
The championship continues in Singapore with broad international participation from top global swimmers.
