The Palestinian Prisoners Club reported on Sunday that Israeli forces arrested 118 high school students in the West Bank either before or during their final exams, in addition to thousands of students in Gaza who were prevented from sitting for their high school exams due to the ongoing genocide.
In a statement cited by Quds Press, the organization emphasized that Palestinian detainees have fought for decades for their right to education and knowledge, turning prisons into extensions of schools and universities and creating a new space for the concept of freedom.
However, since the start of the genocide, Israeli authorities have not only denied hundreds of prisoners and detainees the right to continue their education behind bars but also arrested hundreds more during mass arrest campaigns. Meanwhile, thousands of students in Gaza have been deprived of their right to education, with the deliberate targeting of Gaza’s education infrastructure becoming one of the most visible aspects of the ongoing genocide.
The Prisoners Club also noted that Israel has systematically worked to dismantle the role of the student movement, which has historically been a cornerstone of the broader Palestinian resistance.
