At least 11 people were injured last night as a result of a stabbing incident that occurred inside a Walmart store in the city of Traverse City, in the U.S. state of Michigan.
The Michigan State Police confirmed that a suspect had been arrested, noting that investigations are still ongoing and that the information available so far is limited.
The State Police called on residents to avoid the site of the incident until investigations are completed.
The "Munson" Medical Center, the largest hospital in northern Michigan, also reported that the injured are receiving treatment in emergency departments, adding in a statement on its digital platforms that it will issue updates "as necessary."
For his part, Joe Pennington, spokesperson for Walmart, said that the company is cooperating with law enforcement agencies and has referred all inquiries to the competent police.
Traverse City is a well-known tourist destination in northern Michigan due to its location near Lake Michigan and a group of the Great Lakes, which increased the sensitivity of the incident that has raised widespread concern in the area.
