The British capital, London, witnessed the launch of the founding conference of the Global Alliance for Palestine (GAFP) on Saturday, with the participation of over 70 solidarity organizations from 25 countries.
These groups represent diverse sectors of civil society and were joined by Palestinian delegations from both inside the occupied territories and the diaspora.
According to a statement from the organizers, the conference aims to lay the foundation for a structured international coalition to confront Israeli policies, coordinate global solidarity efforts, and activate political, media, and legal tools in support of Palestinian rights.
The event featured contributions from prominent political figures and activists, including British MP Jeremy Corbyn, who heads the conference's steering committee; Dr. Mustafa Barghouti from Palestine; Irish leader Gerry Adams (via video link); former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis; South African activist Ronnie Kasrils; and Italian MP Angelo Bonelli.
Speakers stressed the urgent need to unify international efforts in support of the Palestinian struggle, strengthen political and economic boycott campaigns against the occupation, and expand grassroots and human rights advocacy across international platforms.
Adnan Humaidan, Acting Head of the Palestinian Forum in Britain, stated that the alliance was formed in response to global complicity in the ongoing assault on Palestinian rights. He told Quds Press, “We are witnessing a clear alignment of Western powers behind the Israeli regime, supporting its campaign of genocide, starvation, and aggression against our people in Gaza.”
He added, “This is the first time such a large number of organizations—over 70 from 25 countries—have come together with the purpose of forming a permanent coalition to counter the pro-Israel lobby.”
The Global Alliance for Palestine is an emerging international initiative aimed at organizing solidarity efforts with the Palestinian cause in a strategic and sustainable manner, particularly from outside the Arab and Islamic worlds.
