Sana'a Water Basin Mini-Committee, chaired by the Mayor of the Capital Dr. Hamoud Obad, discussed, in its meeting on Saturday, requests submitted to the committee regarding the drilling and deepening of wells, including new and postponed requests, and requests for reconsideration in most areas of the basin.
The committee reviewed 13 requests for the drilling of new wells, 22 requests for the drilling of postponed wells, and five requests for the reconsideration of grievances submitted to the committee.
The meeting approved a number of applications and rejected others after taking into account the comments of the committee members regarding acceptance or rejection. Some applications were postponed due to failure to meet the required technical and legal requirements.
At the meeting, Capital Sana'a Mayor stressed the need to take deterrent measures against any violations related to the random drilling of wells, given the danger they pose to the Sana'a Water Basin.
He pointed out the importance of the committee's careful consideration of the applications submitted to it, whether for drilling new wells, deepening wells, or postponed applications, to preserve the waters of the Sana'a Basin and protect them from excessive depletion.
Basin Committee's Technical Secretariat, Engineer Mustafa al-Shehari, Director of the Sana'a Branch of the Water Resources Authority, reviewed the files submitted to the branch for new well drilling licenses, reconsideration requests, and deferred well applications, as well as the implementation of the committee's decisions at its previous meeting.
Al-Shehari addressed the specific locations of the submitted applications, their details, the justifications for submitting them, their legality, and the technical observations related to them.
