London - Saba:
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that he is working with his "closest allies" to "lay out a path to peace in the Middle East," stressing that recognizing the State of Palestine "must be one of the steps on this international path."
In a video address posted on his X account, Starmer said: "We are working with our close allies on a path to peace in the region, focused on practical solutions that will change the lives of those suffering from this war. This path will set concrete steps to make the ceasefire we so desperately need a prelude to lasting peace."
He added: "Recognizing the Palestinian state must be one of these steps. My position on this matter is very clear."
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday in a post on X that France had decided to recognize the State of Palestine, "fulfilling its historic commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East," stressing that the official announcement will be made before the UN General Assembly next September.
