Washington – Saba:
A group of U.S. Congress members warned on Friday of the deteriorating "horrific and unacceptable" humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, stating that "chaotic aid delivery has led to the deaths of nearly 700 people."
In a joint statement, the lawmakers emphasized that "over 100 NGOs have warned of famine spreading across the besieged enclave, where 75% of the population faces catastrophic hunger levels due to the blockade imposed by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government."
They criticized the insufficient aid, stating that "the handful of assistance provided by the 'Gaza Humanitarian Foundation' falls far short of meeting the needs of the population."
The members also revealed that the Trump administration ignored consultations with Congress before granting the foundation $30 million, calling the lack of a practical post-war plan a "grave mistake."
They warned that "the expansion of Israel’s military operation in Gaza endangers humanitarian efforts," stressing that "the continuation of this war without a clear end does not serve Israel’s national security interests."
In their statement’s conclusion, the U.S. Congress members urged the Trump administration to work toward a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
This statement comes amid growing international criticism of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and increasing calls for urgent action to save civilians from starvation and the genocide being committed by the Israeli enemy against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has continued to commit genocidal crimes in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of 59,676 Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children, and the injury of 143,498 others—a non-final toll, as thousands remain trapped under rubble or in streets, unreachable by rescue teams.
