Rabat – Saba:
Thousands of Moroccans and Mauritanians took to the streets on Friday in massive demonstrations, demanding an end to the Israeli policy of starvation against Palestinians, amid the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip for over 21 months.
The protests were organized by the Moroccan Body for Supporting the Nation’s Causes in several cities across the kingdom, as well as by non-governmental organizations in Mauritania, including the "National Rally to Support the Palestinian People" and the "Student Initiative Against Israeli Infiltration and in Defense of Just Causes," according to the Palestinian Safa Agency.
In Morocco, thousands participated in solidarity vigils for Gaza for the 86th consecutive week, held under the slogan: "No to Starvation, No to Siege, No to Normalization."
These vigils took place in multiple cities, including Casablanca, El Jadida, Inezgane, Agadir, Oujda, Meknes, and Tangier.
Protesters raised images depicting the ravages of famine in Gaza, along with banners reading, "Stop the Genocide in Gaza" and "Palestine is a Trust, Normalization is Betrayal."
Demonstrators chanted slogans such as, "A Moroccan salute to steadfast Gaza," and "From Morocco to Palestine, one people, not two."
Meanwhile, in Mauritania, thousands of citizens marched in the capital, Nouakchott, under the slogan, "Stop the Famine, Lift the Siege."
Protesters carried Mauritanian and Palestinian flags, as well as pictures of prominent Hamas leaders, including Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar.
Chants included, "Starving Gaza is a war crime," and "Stop the war of extermination."
During the protests, participants held the United States responsible for the continuation of the genocide and starvation in Gaza.
Demonstrators called on "Arab and Islamic nations to join a popular uprising to force a ceasefire and allow aid into Gaza."
On Friday, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the death toll from hunger and malnutrition since October 2023 has risen to 122 Palestinians, including 83 children.
