US President Donald Trump has made serious accusations against Democratic Senator Adam Schiff, alleging his involvement in falsifying loan documents and playing a pivotal role in a "coup attempt" through fabricated investigations targeting his family.
This came in a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, in which Trump said, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik, that "Adam Schiff is in big trouble after providing false information to obtain mortgage loans." He added that what he did constitutes a real crime that deserves punishment, in addition to making accusations against Trump's son without any legal basis, as he described it.
Trump's statements coincided with reports that the Federal Housing Finance Agency referred Adam Schiff's case to the Department of Justice due to suspicions regarding his declared residence on mortgage documents.
For his part, Schiff categorically denied these accusations, asserting that they are part of a "political revenge campaign" led by Trump to smear his opponents.
Schiff described the accusations as "baseless allegations" aimed at distracting from the legal issues facing Trump and "intimidating anyone who dares to hold him accountable."
Adam Schiff was one of the most prominent figures leading the impeachment investigations into Trump, having chaired the House Intelligence Committee during the investigation into interference in the 2016 election. This led to a sharp, personal dispute between the two parties that continues to this day.
