UNRWA Warns: Newborns in Gaza showing unprecedented genetic changes

Gaza – Saba:

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Sunday that premature infants in Gaza are being born with unprecedented genetic abnormalities.

In a statement published on its official website, the agency reported that its teams continue delivering humanitarian services in Gaza despite immense challenges and a severe shortage of critical medical supplies.

UNRWA emphasized that restrictions on humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, are worsening the already dire health and living conditions, and called on the international community to urgently act to ensure the flow of vital supplies and end the deepening crisis.

The agency issued a stark warning that the continued deterioration of conditions signals an imminent humanitarian catastrophe, citing the near-total collapse of the healthcare system, soaring poverty and malnutrition rates, particularly among children and women (source: Shehab News Agency).

Since October 7, 2023, and with U.S. and European backing, the Israeli military has continued a devastating assault on Gaza that has resulted in the deaths of 58,026 Palestinian civilians, most of them women and children, and left 138,520 wounded — a toll that is still rising, as thousands remain trapped under rubble or inaccessible to emergency crews.
