Ankara - Saba:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Saturday that the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip have been subjected to genocide for 22 months before the eyes of the civilized world, similar to what the Bosnians were subjected to 30 years ago.
This came during a speech during a consultative meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the capital, Ankara, during which he addressed the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre, committed by Serbian forces in 1995 during the Bosnian War.
Erdoğan stated that today marks the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, one of the most shameful events in modern human history.
He added: "Every mass grave we discover, every martyr we bury, reminds us of those dark days, and we in Turkey will continue to stand with Bosnia and Herzegovina and our Bosniak brothers under all circumstances and at all times to prevent similar suffering from occurring again."
He continued: "We send our prayers to the oppressed people of Gaza, who have been subjected to genocide for 22 months in front of the eyes of the civilized world, just like our Bosnian brothers."
Erdogan added: "We affirm that we stand with them (the people of Gaza) and will continue to stand with them in their honorable struggle against injustice and occupation."
The Srebrenica massacre is considered the worst in Europe since World War II. Bosnian civilians sought protection from Dutch soldiers on July 11, 1995, after Serbian forces led by Ratko Mladić occupied the city.
