Scotland - Saba:
The Scottish National Party (SNP) has called on the UK government to stop making excuses and follow the lead of other European countries in recognizing the State of Palestine.
The party’s statements came in response to a speech delivered by French President Emmanuel Macron during his recent official visit to the United Kingdom, in which he stated that recognizing Palestine is “the only path to peace,” according to the British news agency PA Media.
The SNP also called for an end to arms sales to "Israel", saying that the government’s failure to “use the power it holds” to help end the conflict in Gaza makes it “fully complicit” in what it described as a “massacre.”
Brendan O’Hara, the SNP’s spokesperson for Middle East affairs, stated that if the UK government had “a shred of condemnation and courage, it would have the ability to act.”
He added: “After witnessing yet another week of massacre, the Labour Party can — and must — begin this new week by taking two concrete steps.”
He continued, saying: “They must start this new week by halting all arms sales to ‘Israel’ and finally recognizing the State of Palestine.”
