Two Killed, Seven Injured in Collapse of Residential Building in Egypt

Alexandria - Saba:

Two people were killed and seven others injured following the collapse of a residential building in Alexandria Governorate, northern Egypt, on Sunday.

Civil defense teams rushed to the scene of the collapse in the Attarin area of Alexandria and began search and rescue operations. Two bodies, identified as brothers, were recovered from beneath the rubble, in addition to seven injured individuals.

The collapsed building consists of a ground floor, four upper floors, and part of a fifth floor. It contains six residential units, as well as commercial activities on the ground floor. Search operations for missing persons under the debris are still ongoing.

The Alexandria Ambulance Authority reported receiving a notification of the building collapse in the Attarin area and immediately dispatched dozens of ambulance teams to the site.

Several of the injured were evacuated and transferred to Gamal Hamada Hospital to receive the necessary medical care, while search efforts at the scene continue.

Building collapses are a recurring issue in Alexandria, often involving structures that have been issued demolition or renovation orders that were never carried out, due to the historical nature of some neighborhoods.

Estimates indicate that around 300,000 buildings in Alexandria are at risk of collapse, mostly concentrated in the city’s older and historic districts.
