Pyongyang - Saba:
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed on Saturday that both the Russian Federation and North Korea have taken note of recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the need to resume contacts between Washington and Pyongyang, including at the highest levels. However, he emphasized that no concrete steps have been announced yet.
Speaking to reporters, as quoted by Sputnik News Agency, Lavrov said: “As for the United States, perhaps you noticed that President Trump spoke about resuming contacts with North Korea, including at the highest level. We have heard that, and our friends in Korea have heard it as well. That is all there is for now.”
Commenting on inter-Korean relations, Lavrov added, “Regarding relations between North Korea and Seoul, we will only act in directions that suit and are of interest to North Korea. It is our ally, and we will take that into account.”
Lavrov arrived in the North Korean city of Wonsan on Friday for talks with his North Korean counterpart, Choe Son Hui, as part of the second round of strategic dialogue between the two countries at the foreign ministerial level.
