Gaza - Saba:
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced on Tuesday that operations at one of its important medical clinics east of Gaza City had been halted after several shells fired by the Israeli army fell in the surrounding area, threatening the safety of medical staff and patients.
The society said in a statement: "Operation at the society's Al-Zeitoun Medical Clinic in Gaza City has been halted after shells fell in the area surrounding the clinic, threatening the safety of medical staff and patients."
The society explained that the clinic was providing services to thousands of patients, especially given the overcrowding of the area with displaced people from eastern Gaza following the Israeli army's evacuation orders.
She added, "Thousands of citizens will be forced to walk long distances to receive healthcare or receive children's vaccinations."
She noted that the total number of the association's clinics that have been out of service since October 7, 2023, has reached 18 due to Israeli measures and ongoing evacuation orders.
This comes at a time when the health sector in Gaza is at risk of shutting down its remaining hospitals and medical centers due to the worsening fuel crisis, resulting from the Israeli closure of the crossings since last March.
It also coincides with a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies amid the increasing number of casualties arriving at hospitals.
