Olga Cherevko, spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), warned Thursday evening that Gaza City is on the verge of a catastrophic deterioration, and that the coming hours could witness further closure of vital facilities unless fuel is urgently secured.
In statements to the UN website following a field visit that lasted several days to Gaza, Cherevko described the situation as "absolutely horrific," noting that shelters are overcrowded with internally displaced persons, while the influx of civilians fleeing Israeli bombardment continues toward areas further north.
