FC Barcelona announced Wednesday the activation of the €25 million release clause for Spanish goalkeeper Juan García from Espanyol with the player set to join the first team for the new season.
The club stated on its official website that Barcelona triggered García's termination clause worth €25 million plus additional living expenses with the 24-year-old goalkeeper scheduled to sign a six-year contract until June 2031 during a special ceremony at the Catalan club's offices this Friday.
García who was part of Spain's gold medal-winning squad at the 2024 Paris Olympics impressed last season with Espanyol playing all 38 league matches conceding 51 goals while keeping 8 clean sheets and making 146 saves at an average of 3.84 saves per game earning him recognition as La Liga's top shot-stopper.
This transfer marks German coach Hansi Flick's first signing since leading Barcelona to a domestic treble last season winning La Liga the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
