Tunis - Saba:
The Joint Action Coordination Committee for Palestine in Tunisia announced on Monday the launch of a land solidarity convoy, dubbed the "Resilience Convoy," toward the Gaza Strip.
This is a symbolic and popular move aimed at breaking the stifling blockade imposed by the Israeli enemy on the Strip for more than 18 years, especially in light of the ongoing war since October 2023.
The Coordination Committee affirmed in a statement that the convoy represents a unified Tunisian popular response to the ongoing genocide committed by the Israeli enemy in the Gaza Strip, noting that the convoy represents "a message of loyalty to Palestinian rights, an expression of unconditional support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, and a demand for the immediate lifting of the blockade."
The statement added that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has "reached catastrophic levels," explaining that more than two million Palestinians live without medicine, food, electricity, or potable water, making daily life a constant struggle that threatens a slow death.
The statement continued: "The popular land convoy is supported by major national organizations, with a group of prominent Tunisian civil society actors participating in organizing and leading the convoy, most notably: the Tunisian General Labor Union, the National Union of Tunisian Journalists, the National Order of Lawyers in Tunisia, the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights, the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, the Order of Tunisian Doctors, the Tunisian Association of Young Lawyers, the Tunisian Organization of Young Doctors, the Association of One Million Rural Women and Landless, and the Tunisian Network to Confront the Normalization System."
The Joint Action Coordination Committee called for facilitating the convoy's passage through Arab territories and providing political and logistical cover for the initiative's success, warning against "official Arab and international silence" regarding what is happening in Gaza, describing it as a "moral and humanitarian disgrace."
It's worth noting that the convoy's launch comes at a time when UN reports indicate that the people of Gaza are facing the worst humanitarian disaster in modern times. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 100 percent of the Strip's population is food insecure, while more than half of Gaza's population is now homeless after their homes were destroyed.
The World Health Organization has also documented the complete collapse of the health system, with more than 70 percent of Gaza's hospitals out of service due to bombing and fuel shortages.
