Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said on Friday that Russia has registered a patent for a technology for launching drones from a space station, which will be applied to the Russian orbital station.
In his speech at the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects, Manturov added, "We must ensure a planned transition to our own orbital station, one unit at a time, by 2030," according to Russia's Sputnik news agency.
He continued, "This will be the first drone platform in the world equipped with robots for maintenance. This is a solution patented by the Russian Federation."
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday that Russian drone systems are the most advanced in the world in some sectors and are often imitated by foreigners.
Putin said at a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects: "In recent years, our engineers and designers have made significant progress in developing domestic prototypes and serial models of drones, which were recently displayed at an exhibition in Moscow and were introduced to foreign leaders visiting Russia during the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War."
He expressed Russia's pride in its unique achievements in the space sector, stressing that it will develop bold, long-term plans in this field.
