Amran Water Basin Committee, in its meeting on Tuesday chaired by the Deputy Governor of Amran, Hassan Al-Ashqas, reviewed requests submitted to the committee regarding the drilling of seven new wells in districts within the basin’s scope.
The meeting, attended by the directors of the Water Resources Authority branch, Engineer Fahd Al-Sufyani, and the Rural Water Projects branch, Kamal Al-Makhdhi, as well as the directors of Amran District, Abdulrahman Al-Ammad, and Ayyal Surih District, Mohammed Habbah, approved six well-drilling requests while postponing one request. The committee emphasized the need to adhere to legal conditions related to the basin and discussed proposals for potential partnerships in some of the submitted requests.
During the meeting, Deputy Governor Al-Ashqas stressed the importance of preventing any illegal well drilling or deepening to protect Amran Basin and reduce groundwater depletion.
He called for strict regulatory measures against violators of drilling conditions and standards, monitoring well owners, and prohibiting drilling without permits from the committee. He also emphasized preventing well owners from selling water for irrigating qat, especially to water tanker owners, and enforcing previous committee decisions.
Engineer Al-Sufyani, Director of the Water Resources Authority branch, presented the technical details of the requests submitted to the authority for new well-drilling permits, including the proposed sites, legal compliance, and technical observations.
