Gaza – Saba:
The Gaza Municipality warned on Wednesday of the worsening disaster of waste accumulation, which is exacerbating the health and environmental crisis in the city, creating a breeding ground for diseases, harmful insects, and rodents, and posing a serious threat to human health and life.
In a statement, the municipality said the amount of waste piled up in the city has exceeded a quarter of a million tons.
The municipality confirmed that it is making "tremendous efforts to mitigate and contain the disaster by collecting the accumulated waste in temporary dumps within the city center, conducting preliminary waste collection, and cleaning main streets."
It explained that the "lack of resources, particularly waste collection vehicles and fuel, as well as the Israeli occupation's prevention of municipal crews from transferring waste to the landfill in Juhr al-Deek, east of the city, is aggravating the catastrophe."
