British police announced on Tuesday that the Liverpool car-ramming incident was an isolated incident and not linked to terrorism. Paramedics said the incident sent 27 people to the hospital, two of them seriously injured.
"We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with it," Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said at a press conference, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.
For his part, David Kitchen, head of the North West Ambulance Service, stated at a press conference that "ambulance crews treated 20 people at the scene for minor injuries, but they did not require hospital treatment."
She added, "Twenty-seven people were taken to hospital by ambulance, and we believe two of them, including a child, were seriously injured."
British police announced Monday evening that a car had struck a crowd of pedestrians in Liverpool.
In a statement, British police said the incident occurred during Liverpool FC's Premier League title celebration parade, confirming that the perpetrator had been arrested.
For his part, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, "The scenes in Liverpool were horrific," stressing that "the police and emergency services responded quickly to the shocking Liverpool incident."
Liverpool won the Premier League title this season after a stellar performance by Dutch coach Arne Slot's team, and they plan to continue winning titles next season, in addition to competing for the Champions League title.
