A workshop focused on strengthening mechanisms to combat customs smuggling was held in the capital Sana'a, organized by the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Investment.
Deputy Prime Minister Lieutenant General Jalal al-Ruwaishan emphasized that combating smuggling is crucial for Yemen's economic and national security, especially amidst the ongoing economic war, and is a priority of the current government. He called for a blacklist of smugglers to prevent dealings with them.
Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed al-Madani highlighted that smuggling hinders economic plans and harms local production, stressing the need for clear anti-smuggling mechanisms to support self-sufficiency.
Minister of Economy Eng. Moeen al-Mahaqeri emphasized developing a new anti-smuggling system with effective coordination among agencies and comprehensive solutions to limit its harm. He also noted the media's role in raising awareness about the negative consequences of smuggling.
During the workshop, the Head of the Customs Authority presented efforts to combat smuggling, including measures taken and legal actions against smugglers.
The workshop concluded by approving the development of executive procedures, activating cooperation between government agencies, proposing stricter legal penalties for smugglers, and emphasizing the role of all parties, including the media, in reducing smuggling.
