A workshop on employing technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance governance and combat corruption in Yemen concluded on Tuesday in Sana'a.
The event was organized by Awtaad Anti-Corruption Organization in partnership with the Supreme Authority for Tenders and Bids Control.
The workshop aimed to equip 21 participants from oversight bodies, civil society organizations, software developers, and AI experts with essential skills in utilizing AI , its applications in governance and anti-corruption efforts. It also focused on data analysis techniques that will effectively contribute to reducing financial and administrative corruption risks across various sectors.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Engineer Abdulmalik Al-Arshi, Chairman of the Supreme Authority, praised Awtaad Foundation’s efforts in organizing this significant event, which is closely linked to a vital aspect of governance—leveraging technology , AI to promote integrity, combat corruption, and safeguard public funds.
Over three days, the workshop discussed three working papers focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications in governance and anti-corruption. Topics included the role of AI in combating corruption, managing AI projects in government institutions, and AI tools for monitoring corruption and data analysis. The sessions also featured presentations of digital models and case studies, delivered by Dr. Hisham Aqlan and Dr. Bilal Al-Mitami.
The event included interactive sessions to analyze the needs of participating entities, identify challenges , opportunities, and assess shortcomings in traditional oversight mechanisms. Possible solutions were discussed, culminating in the development of a national roadmap in this field.
Participants emphasized the importance of raising awareness about AI's potential in fighting corruption. They recommended designing tailored AI project proposals for each participating entity and establishing a mechanism to create an action plan for implementing the proposed projects.
