Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide strongly criticized the silence of many Western nations regarding the genocide being perpetrated by the "Israeli" enemy against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
During a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held Thursday in Ankara, Eide expressed deep concern over Western inaction amid the ongoing Israeli aggression.
Eide stated, "I am deeply concerned about the silence of some of my Western counterparts regarding what is happening in Gaza," describing this lack of clarity as a “grave mistake.”
He emphasized that Norway was not among the silent nations, being one of the first to call for an immediate ceasefire. He strongly condemned Israel’s response to the October 7 attacks, asserting it grossly violated principles of proportionality and international humanitarian law.
The Norwegian minister reaffirmed that his country’s stance is rooted in respect for international law and urged the global community to adopt consistent and outspoken positions to uphold human rights and avoid double standards.
These statements come amid Israel’s ongoing U.S.-backed war on Gaza, which since October 7, 2023, has resulted in over 168,000 casualties, most of them women and children, in addition to more than 14,000 missing persons.
