Gaza – Saba:
The Palestinian Media Forum said that more than 100 Palestinian journalists have been arrested since October 7, 2023, most of them during the ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
It added the most recent arrest was of journalist Samer Khweira from the West Bank, and dozens of them were released either after their detention period expired or as part of a prisoner exchange deal between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli enemy.
It added more than 60 Palestinian journalists are currently languishing in Israeli occupation prisons, threatened by the occupation's brutal practices against prisoners.
The forum explained in a statement reported by the Sanad News Agency, today, Thursday, on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners' Day, that this number represents the highest rate of journalist arrests in years and reflects an escalation in the targeting of Palestinian journalists, especially in light of the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip.
It stressed that the detained journalists "have committed no crime other than exercising their right, guaranteed under international law and humanitarian conventions, to perform their professional duty of conveying the truth and exposing the occupation's violations."
