Japanese stocks declined for the third consecutive session amid uncertainty over the imminent implementation of additional US tariffs, after US President Donald Trump indicated he would be flexible regarding the new round of tariffs scheduled to take effect on April 2.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange said that Japan's Nikkei 225 index closed down 0.18 percent, or 68.57 points, at 37,608.49, despite a 3 percent rise in SoftBank Group shares.
The broader Topix index closed down 0.47 percent, or 13.28 points, at 2,790.88.
