Russian Daniil Medvedev, ranked sixth in the world, and Danish Holger Rune qualified for the round of 16 at the Indian Wells Tennis Championship, which has 1,000 points, today, Monday.

Medvedev qualified after his American competitor Alex Mikkelsen withdrew due to injury, while the Russian was leading by two sets to none.

Medvedev will play in the next round against American Tommy Paul, who defeated Britain's Cameron Norrie in two sets to none, with a score of (6-3 and 7-5).

The Danish Holger Rune, ranked 13th in the world, also qualified after defeating the Frenchman Ugo Humbert in two sets to one (5-7, 6-4, 7-5), to set a date with the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who also qualified after defeating the Italian Matteo Berrettini.

The Italian Lorenzo Musetti was eliminated from the tournament after losing to the Frenchman Arthur Fils in two sets to one (6-3, 6-7, 3-6).

Arthur Fils will play the American Marcus Giron, who eliminated the Australian Alexei Popyrin.

In another match, the Japanese Yusuke Watanuki defeated the American Frances Tiafoe in two sets to none (6-4, 7-6).

Watani will face the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in the next round, who also qualified at the expense of the Frenchman Giovanni Pericard.
