Sana'a - Saba:

The Yemeni Parliament, in its session on Monday, approved the report of the Transport and Communications Committee regarding the performance and achievements of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs for the years 2021–2024. The session was chaired by Speaker of the Council, Yahya al-Ra'i.

The approval came following commitments from the government, represented by Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works Yahya Al-Sayani, in addition to the Acting Chairman of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, Zaid Al-Moshki, and several specialists in the relevant authorities. The government agreed to implement the following recommendations:

1. The Ministry of Finance is tasked with providing necessary financial support to repair, maintain, and rehabilitate the marine communications system at the Authority's branch in Al-Hodeida province. This is crucial for enabling the Authority to monitor and ensure the safety of maritime navigation.

2. The activation of Minister of Transport Decision No. (65) of 2010, which addresses the affiliation of lighthouses and navigational aids serving international navigation. This includes paying the Authority's share of lighting fees, which amounts to 40% of the fees paid to the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation.

3. The provision of financial support to implement the Authority's projects, including ten projects totaling 196,550,000 riyals, as the Authority lacks resources due to the ongoing siege and aggression against the country.

In a related development, the Parliament also approved the report of the Transport and Communications Committee on the performance and achievements of the General Authority for Regulating Land Transport Affairs for the years 2021–2023.

The government, represented by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works, committed to fulfilling the following recommendations:

1. The government, in coordination with the Ministry of Administration and Local and Rural Development, the Capital Secretariat, the General Authority for Lands and State Properties, and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, is tasked with:

A. Establishing parking lots for sorting passenger transport between provinces.

B. Providing suitable land to build a bus arrival and departure station for public transport buses.

C. Creating parking lots for sorting buses and urban transport vehicles in the provinces, with a focus on the capital.

2. The Ministry of Interior, through the security departments and the General Traffic Department, is to arrest individuals who unlawfully impose and collect fees on paid transport vehicles, referring them to the Public Prosecution for legal action. Additionally, efforts will be made to resolve any issues related to these prosecutions and ensure that due legal procedures are followed.
