SANA'A August 31. 2024 (Saba) - In a meeting convened on Saturday, Yemen's Central Operations Room of the Higher Committee for Emergency Response and Flood Damage, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration and Rural Development Mohammed al-Madani, reviewed the extensive impact of recent floods in Wusab al-Safel in Dhamar province and Malhan in Mahweet province.

The session detailed significant damage from heavy rains, including the collapse of residential and commercial structures in Bani Musa "al-Jurf" and al-Hasab. Flooding led to the destruction of 15 homes, damage to eight others, and loss of vehicles and property.

The floods have caused 27 deaths, eight injuries, and left two missing in Wasab Al-Safel alone.

Deputy Minister of Information Dr. Omar al-Bukhaiti and other officials discussed ongoing rescue operations, emphasizing the role of local communities and various agencies in relief efforts.

The meeting also highlighted the work of the Yemeni Red Crescent, which deployed rescue vehicles from Hodeida, and the Zakat Authority, which provided essential supplies including food baskets and tents.

Key contributions from the General Organization for Roads and Bridges and Tihama Development Authority were acknowledged, alongside the vital role of community volunteers in relief operations.

The meeting underscored the continued efforts of the Civil Defense Department, which is working around the clock to aid affected populations, search for the missing, and ensure effective emergency response.

The importance of coordinated efforts among government bodies, community groups, and international organizations was also emphasized to address the ongoing crisis and prevent further damage.
