BRASILIA August 31. 2024 (Saba) - Brazilian authorities have initiated the blocking of the "X" platform as mandated by a recent judicial order. The decision, issued by Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Brazilian Supreme Court, requires "Google" and "Apple," along with internet service providers, to implement technological barriers to prevent access to the "X" app.
Judge de Moraes criticized "X" for attempting to evade Brazilian legal and judicial oversight, which he argues undermines order and accountability on social media platforms, particularly during the 2024 municipal elections.
He stated that the blocking will remain in place until "X" complies with legal requirements, including paying fines and appointing a legal representative in Brazil.
The platform, which has approximately 22 million users in Brazil, faces a comprehensive ban as the implementation of the block progresses.
