WASHINGTON August 31. 2024 (Saba) - Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has asserted that Moscow will pursue the return of all Russian diplomatic properties seized by the United States.
In a statement on the Russian Embassy's Telegram channel, Antonov urged American authorities to reconsider their actions and highlighted that the US has the most extensive diplomatic network globally.
He condemned the seizure as a violation of diplomatic norms and a form of revenge against Russia, suggesting that such actions undermine civilized international relations.
Antonov criticized the US administration for its disregard of legal standards and due process, accusing it of taking retaliatory measures against Russia based on political disagreements.
In August 2023, Antonov called for Washington to halt its actions, return all seized Russian diplomatic property, and comply with international obligations.
Director of the North American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Darchev has also denounced the US government's actions as contrary to international law.
Moscow claims that in 2017, the US illegally confiscated six Russian properties, including country houses in Maryland and New York, the trade mission building in Washington, and several consular residences.
