KIEV August 30. 2024 (Saba) - The Ukrainian government on Friday declared the temporary shutdown of four nuclear reactors due to a Russian airstrike.
During the intensive airstrikes launched by Moscow last Monday, reactors (1, 3 and 4) at the Rivne nuclear power plant had to be disconnected from the grid immediately, the Ukrainian government said in a letter addressed to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
Moscow continues to target Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with the aim of disrupting the operation of nuclear power plants, which provide most of the electricity supply, it added.
The Ukrainian government explained in the letter that as a result of this targeting, which led to voltage fluctuations in the grid, the third reactor unit at the plant was shut down, noting that instead, the productivity of the nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine was increased.
