WASHINGTON August 21.2024 (Saba) - Members of the US Democratic Party on Wednesday supported the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris to run in the presidential elections, as she obtained 4,566 votes despite her absence from the session announcing the results of the ballot.

The Democratic Party announced its support for Representative Harris as its candidate for the US elections scheduled for November 5, 2024.

Harris received the support of 4,566 delegates at the party conference, while she needed to obtain at least 1,976 votes.

American media reported that Harris did not attend the results announcement that took place in Chicago.

Former President Barack Obama attended the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday evening, stressing that “America is ready for a new chapter” and “we are ready for President Kamala Harris.”

According to Obama, "Kamala Harris is ready to take on the job."
