According to AFP, France Foreign Minister Stephane Sigournje, who is currently visiting Lebanon, said his country "supports Lebanon, and in this context and within the framework of peace in the region, we also hope for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."
After visiting Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Segurne said it was "an important and necessary element to ensure peace in the region."
Sigourney's visit to Beirut comes as part of "supporting ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the region," he said in a comment on the X platform ahead of his arrival in Beirut.
The visit, during which he met with Lebanese officials, including caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib, coincided with the start of a new round of negotiations for a truce in the Gaza Strip mediated by Qatar, the United States and Egypt.
