DAMASCUS August 13. 2024 (Saba) - Syrian Ministry of Health on Tuesday said 65 mild to moderate injuries were recorded, three of which required surgery, with no reports on deaths, following an earthquake that struck east of the city of Hama before midnight last night.
Syrian Health Ministry explained in a statement that the 65 injuries resulted from panic, stampede and fall cases, noting that the Salamiyah National Hospital also dealt with 67 panic cases that reached it.
The ministry said: “It turned out that the cause of reported death of an elderly woman was a natural death that occurred before the earthquake.”
Community sources reported that an elderly woman died in the village of Al-Riba in the northern countryside of Salamiyah, as a result of severe panic from the earthquake, but it later turned out to be a natural death and the cause of death was clarified by the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry confirmed that all cases of panic and injury received the necessary medical services in hospitals or during safe transportation through the ambulance and emergency system vehicles, which were in a state of immediate alert and readiness.
