SANA'A August 11. 2024 (Saba) - Minister of Public Works and Roads in the caretaker government Ghaleb Mutlaq on Sunday chaired a meeting to discuss the ministry’s responsibilities in monitoring and inspecting environmental health activities.

The meeting, attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs Dr. Abdulkarim al-Thulaia, reviewed a report from the committee tasked with preparing the environmental health sector project. They discussed the mechanisms needed to fully activate this sector.

Additionally, the meeting covered the explanatory memorandum regarding the amendment of Republican Decree No. (12) of 1995, which pertains to the organizational regulations of the Ministry of Public Works and Roads.

Minister Mutlaq emphasized the critical role of the environmental health sector in overseeing environmental health activities across the capital and provinces. He highlighted the importance of coordinating with local authorities, donors, and supporters, and ensuring that environmental health departments are equipped with the necessary tools and devices.

He stressed the need for preventive measures to reduce diseases and epidemics caused by water and food pollution. This includes establishing environmental laboratories for testing and analyzing samples to ensure the safety and health of food for consumers.

The minister also discussed the ministry’s role in implementing laws related to environmental health, such as the Food Control Law and the Health Requirements Regulation, and developing policies to mitigate risks from commercial, industrial, and agricultural activities.
