HODEIDA August 08.2024 (Saba) - Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development Affairs Dr. Hussein Maqbouli and Hodeida Governor Mohammed Qahim launched a relief campaign today for those affected by recent heavy rains.

During the launch, Maqbouli and Qahim distributed water suction equipment provided by the Ministry of Finance and the Hodeida Province Support Fund, following directives from the President of the Supreme Political Council for emergency action.

Maqbouli explained that the Presidential Committee, the Civil Defense Team, the Roads Fund, and the Foundation will collaborate with the local authority and the Emergency Committee in the province to provide relief and address the damage caused by the floods.

He noted that a crisis management committee and field teams have been formed at the governorate level to tackle the damage and aftermath of the flooding that has impacted many villages and areas in Hodeida.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that these teams will pump water from affected roads and areas, repair and maintain roads, and distribute tents, mattresses, shelter materials, and food baskets to affected families as an initial step, with subsequent efforts focusing on assessing and addressing the damage.

Governor Qahim commended the efforts of the Presidential Committee and participating parties in the relief campaign, highlighting ongoing efforts to rescue affected areas and search for missing persons.

First Deputy Governor Al-Bishri reported that the local authority has initiated a mobilization campaign in cooperation with the Civil Defense Authority, deploying 250 trained and qualified personnel for rescue and relief operations.

Following the launch, the Deputy Prime Minister and other officials inspected flood damage in various areas and roads. They reviewed the damage on the main road leading to the southern districts of the province and assessed the situation in al-Suwaidiyah, al-Muwaqqar, and al-Qahmah in Zabid district.

During their visit, which included distributing food baskets to displaced and affected families, Maqbouli conveyed condolences from the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the President of the Supreme Political Council, and the government to the families of the flood victims.

He emphasized the commitment of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council to addressing the situation in damaged areas and villages, noting that the Presidential Committee will continue its efforts in cooperation with local authorities and relevant agencies.

Today, the Yemeni Red Crescent Society delivered shelter aid to 600 families affected by the floods in al-Luhayyah district as part of the emergency relief campaign. The aid included mattresses, blankets, water tanks, cleaning tools, and household utensils.

First Deputy Governor Ahmed Al-Bishri and Deputy Governor for Culture and Media Affairs Ali Qashr praised this initiative as a crucial effort to assist flood-affected residents.

Additionally, a convoy from the Bani Hashish tribes in Sana'a province arrived with 450 tent tarpaulins and 200 food baskets to support the displaced and flood-affected individuals in Al-Hodeidah province.

Al-Bishri appreciated this humanitarian gesture and called for continued collective efforts to aid the people of Tihama.

In a related context, Deputy Al-Bishri inspected damage in the districts of al-Qanawis, al-Dahhi, al-Zahra, and al-Luhayyah.
