PARIS August 04. 2024 (Saba) – Algerian gymnast Kaylia Nemour won the gold medal in the parallel bars competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Sunday evening, marking a historic achievement for the Arab world.
At just 17 years old, Nemour secured the Arab world’s first gold medal of these Games, becoming the first Arab and African gymnast to win an Olympic medal in gymnastics. She scored 15.700 points to top the standings in the parallel bars event.
Chinese gymnast Kai Qiyuan claimed the silver medal, while American Sunisa Lee took home the bronze.
Before Nemour’s victory, the Arab world had earned two other medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics: Tunisian Fares al-Farjani won silver in fencing's sabre event, and Egyptian Mohamed al-Sayed took bronze in the same sport.
