STOCKHOLM August 03. 2024 (Saba) - Sweden intends to close its embassy in Beirut amid fears of escalating tensions between the resistance in Lebanon and the Zionist enemy army.
This Swedish decision came after it had called on its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately.
Foreign Minister Tobias Billström told Swedish Radio today, "The Swedish Foreign Ministry has instructed its employees to leave Beirut , travel to Cyprus, and the ministry is planning to temporarily move its embassy," according to Agence France-Presse.
According to the Foreign Ministry statement, "Up to ten thousand Swedish citizens traveled to Lebanon this summer, in defiance of the travel warning to Beirut issued since October 2023."
The minister continued, "I call on Swedes in Lebanon to leave the country by any means possible, as long as they are still able to do so."
The Israeli occupation's assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, as well as the assassination of Hezbollah's operations manager in southern Lebanon, Fuad Shukr, this week, have exacerbated regional tensions amid warnings of an escalation of the conflict.
