Dhahak: Region heads for dangerous escalation as Israeli crimes persist
[Wed, 26 Jun 2024 18:59:28 +0300]

NEW YORK June 26. 2024 (Saba) - The Arab region is seeing a new stage of instability and risks of sliding into wider escalation, the Syrian permanent representative to the UN said late on Tuesday, as the "Zionist enemy persists in its crimes against the Palestinians, repeats assaults on Syrian territories and threatens to launch an offensive in Lebanon."

The Zionist crimes against the Palestinians have revealed hypocrisy of some Western states that mandated themselves as human rights patron but kept silent and failed to develop a mechanism to document such crimes, Qusai al-Dhahak added at UNSC session on Mideast situation.

Instead of seeking to contain this escalation and adopt a constructive approach that would bring stability to the region, the United States and allies favored the occupier's interests over the international law, the international humanitarian law, the principles of UN Charter and human rights, the ambassador told the Security Council.

Still, they provided the Israeli war criminals with all forms of political, military and financial support, and gave them time enough to persist in genocide against the Palestinian people and assaults against regional countries, Dhahak said.

For long years, the U.S. and allies have used human rights, democracy good governance and other slogans to interfere in internal affairs, destabilize security and tried to change legitimate governments by force in Syria and many other countries, he added.
